The closing rank for NITs in the JEE Main exam varies by the category and the course. The cutoffs for NITs are released after each round of JoSAA counseling. The closing rank at NIT Delhi for the General AI category ranged from 8018 to 27045. B. Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering was the most difficult course to get into. At NIT Agartala, the closing ranks for top specializations are expected to be between 16,289 and 32,958. At NIT Jalandhar, the cutoffs for 2024 were concluded after the release of the Round 6 Seat Allotment Result. Candidates should have a percentile between 85 to 95 to get NIT seats.

GATE rank is the position or rank secured by the candidate in the examination. The rank will be offered to the candidate based on his/her performance in the GATE exam. The higher the marks, the higher will be the rank. Candidates with higher rank can get the opportunity to apply for top institutions, such as IITs and IISc. The GATE rank will be mentioned on the scorecard.

Some GATE papers are conducted in multiple shifts, and the difficulty level of the paper may vary for different shifts. In such case, the GATE conducting authorities use the normalisation method to make it fair for everyone. The difference between the GATE actual marks and normalised marks is as follows -

For each correct answer, 1 or 2 marks will be awarded.
For incorrect responses, 1/3 or 2/3 marks are deducted.

GATE scores are calculated using the normalisation process. Due to the large number of applicants participating in the examination, GATE papers like Computer Science (CS) and Civil Engineering (CE) which are conducted in more than one session. In such cases, the GATE scores are calculated by normalising the marks depending on the difficulty level of the paper.

During the counselling of GATE, candidates have to participate in the document verification process and submit the following documents -
Provisional allotment letter
Self-attested copy of GATE scorecard
Valid Photo ID copy, such as Aadhar card, Voter ID, PAN card, etc.
Original Birth Certificate issued by the competent authority
Class 12th mark sheet
Marksheets of all the qualifying examinations (all semesters)
Degree/Provisional Certificate
Category certificate (if applicable)
Three recent passport size photograph

The GATE counselling is done online after the results are declared. The CCMT and COAP conduct the GATE counselling. Candidates wishing to be admitted to IITs must register for counselling on the COAPs portal. The COAP and CCMT counselling usually start in May. The GATE counselling process includes stages, such as registration, choice filling and locking, seat allotment, document verification, and payment of the admission fees.

The GATE 2025 scorecard will be available from March 28, 2025 to May 31, 2025 to download. Candidates can download the scorecard from the GOAPS portal, by submitting their enrollment ID and password. However, candidates can still download the GATE scorecard from June 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025, by paying a fee of INR 500 per test paper. The GATE 2025 results will be announced on March 19, 2025 online.
