Candidates aiming for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) need to meet these cutoff marks in JEE Mains to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026.

In JEE Main, an 86.86 percentile normally corresponds to a rank of approximately 140,000 to 150,000. However, this can fluctuate slightly based on the exam's complexity and the number of test-takers each year. For a general-category student, getting into Computer Science Engineering (CSE) at prestigious government colleges may be difficult with this rank. Lower-class NITs: There may be openings in CSE-related fields like software engineering or information technology (IT) at some of the less popular NITs. State of Residence Quota: Because of the state quota, your chances may be enhanced if you are a resident of the home state of a certain NIT.While it could be difficult for a general candidate to get into one of the top government colleges for CSE with an 86.86 percentile in JEE Main.

For the CSE branch, both VIT Chennai and VIT Bhopal are decent options. However, considering recent data and factors like placements, faculty, and campus facilities, VIT Chennai might be a better choice. 

• Placements: VIT Chennai has a strong industry connection, which translates to better placement opportunities. VIT Bhopal also has good placements, but they might not be as extensive.
• Campus Facilities: VIT Chennai is a well-established campus with a diverse student population and good infrastructure. VIT Bhopal, although decent, might not match the same level of facilities and diversity.
• Faculty: The quality of faculty at VIT Chennai is generally considered good. While VIT Bhopal also has good faculty, there might be some variation in the quality of teaching.

If you are from Uttarakhand, fall under the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) category, and have a JEE Mains rank of about one lakh, you have a good chance of getting into some of the branches of Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Engineering and Technology (GBPEC), Pauri Garhwal. The particular cutoffs for the EWS category, which change every year depending on variables including the volume of applications, availability of seats, and overall performance of candidates, will determine admission to various branches. With approximately a JEE Mains rank of one lakh, together with your EWS category and home state quota, you stand a good chance of being admitted to GBPEC, Pauri Garhwal's civil, mechanical, electrical, production, electronics, and communication engineering disciplines.
