BTech programme at Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai is often preferred over newer IITs if your main goal is chemical research. The campus has legendary industry roots and specialised chemical equipment that newer institutes lack. However, IITs might offer better brand value for non-chemical fields like software roles.

Admission in IIT Bombay is considered competitive. To get admission in UG engineering courses, students must first give JEE Main exam. Then if the aspirant passes the cutoff, they can appear for the JEE Advanced Exam. The entry to IITs is decided solely on the basis of JEE Advanced rank.
