IITs are the no. 1 institutions in India. IITs and NITs are not the same when compared to the level of studies. IITs possess a high grade infrastructure of courses, scope, faculty members as well as top-scoring students versus NITs. On the other hand, NITs do have batches with diligent and smart students, in comparison to the level of top private colleges
When it comes to the quality of education provided IITs are ahead of the NITs. Both IITs and NITs are extremely good in providing education and producing good engineers, but at the same time the top IIT colleges have an edge because of their high standard of studies

Yes, you can get NITs or IIITs with your rank. All you need to do is some of these steps :
Your choices must include all the branches of NITs. You can omit some of the North Eastern NITs but you must include every branch of the central NITs. Wait till the very end of counselling. Most of the times you can get good NITs or IIITs in the 7th or Special round. Make a list of your choices and arrange it according to your preference and fill it accordingly. According to my prediction you can get a seat in a newly opened IIIT. If you are going to choose it please do check it's Mentor Institute because it can determine your campus life in the institution. Yes your marks will matter and effect you campus placement whether it be 10th or 12th boards. It really matters. The marks will not matter once you have experience of working in industry but if you are a fresher then you will face issues. Below is the criteria for campus placement:
60% throughout your academics I. e 10th, 12th and your graduation. No backlogs in 10th, 12th or graduation. If you fulfill this criteria then you will be allowed to sit for campus placement else not. However, different companies have different marks cut-off area some keep it 60% or 65%. It may also be 70%
So it is better that now you study hard and smart. Study properly, grab the concept and do apply them. Aptitude, Reasoning and Verbal plays an important role for placement. All the companies have them as the first elimation round. Hope it helps.

No one is going to tell you this but the fact is that in the next 4 years of your B.Tech, you want to enjoy and study. You do not want to waste those years in trying to do something that you are not even interested in. So to answer your question, if you are passionate about CSE, if you are interested in computers, just do not think twice and go for CSE in some new IIIT. You are getting the branch you want and moreover, it a IIIT. New old, it has a reputation, and moreover, there will be companies there for your placement too. There is no problem with taking a new IIIT at all. On the other hand if you take the NIT with any branch you get, you are gonna be miserable for 4 years. You would not believe able to enjoy your classes. You will keep running from college and exams. You will be a little frustrated. That is the problem. I hope this helps you. All the best.
