Executive MBA

To pursue Executive MBA you need to have:
1. A bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline from a recognized University.
2. Around 3-5 years of post-qualification managerial/professional work experience. The work experience criteria may differ from Institute to Institute.
3. Other than this, depending on the Institute's requirements, you would have to clear the entrance exam, group discussion and personal interview rounds.
4. Institutes like the IIMs require a valid GMAT score (taken within last 36 months of Application date).
There is a wide choice of Institutes offering Executive MBA or PGPX programs. You can aim to pursue it from the top notch B-schools like:
1. The Indian School of Business (ISB) – Hyderabad.
2. Various Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).
3. XLRI – Jamshedpur.
4. FMS – Delhi.
5. S.P Jain Institute of Management and Research - Mumbai, etc.

Executive MBA programs are usually structured in accordance with the academic needs of professionals with good industry experience. These programs are usually compact versions of a general MBA program delivered in smaller time periods. As far as the comparison of benefits goes, it is highly subjective but in a broad sense it all depends on your objectives and career goals. You do not necessarily need an MBA for fulfilling your career goals. We should not view MBA as a ticket to a fat pay cheque. That has not helped anyone ever in the long term. We should view it as an academic program that equips us with skills and knowledge to achieve our career objectives in a business setting.

The chance of placement with full time MBA is definitely better but you need to ensure that you do it from a reputed B-school.
As you have mentioned that you have an experience of 5 years in IT, so if you are satisfied with the company you are in and need a qualification to get promoted to higher management levels within the organization, then you can also consider weekend batches.
But if you want to move to a new organization and are willing to invest 1 year, then you can choose full time MBA.
