Both institutes are the oldest and among the best universities in Germany. Getting into any one of them is a matter of pride. The QS World University Rankings 2024 ranked Heidelberg University and LMU Munich #87 and #54 respectively. Both universities are the oldest in Germany.

The institute's QS Ranking for 2024 is #87 in the world. THE as part of its World University Rankings for the year 2023 ranked the University #43 in the world. Meanwhile, the U.S. News and World Report 2023 ranked Heidelberg University #57 among global universities.
