For top branches in top IITs, it should be under 500. For low branches in top IITs, it should be under 4000. For any branch in any IIT, it should be 10000 around.

To get into IITs, one should clear Mains and then have to qualify for Advanced paper. Then, based on the score secured in Advanced, he/she can know which IIT they get. Your friend is not eligible as minimum percentage required in 12 is 75 for either general category or OBC category. This criteria has been implemented from a few years ago earlier it was 60% only. You can also check on your own there are plenty of sites mentioned the eligibility criteria.
