In a good university / colleges there ere eligibility of 55% of marks in MA but its very difficult to get admission without NET/JRF. There are many colleges who offer PhD in different stream of social science where you will get an admission but they charging high tution fee and not providng any schoolarship. So prepare for NET/JRF is more essential

I think you are asking about engineering colleges, recently some drop in placement was observed even in very good colleges so do not bother about placements, if you study hard you will defenitely get good opportunities after completing your graduation
