The entrance test will be common for both M.Sc Zoology and M.Sc genetics. You will be allocated these courses as per your score in the entrance exam.

As per my experience, I would suggest M.Sc in Microbiology because it has a vast scope of anyone is really interested to do something in his or her life. Microbiology is an important field in the areas of pharmaceutical companies as u can work in QC and QA Department. Microbiology is a seperate department in each and every company. Next, u can work in hospitals in the pathology department, other u can teach in schools and colleges as teachers and professors respectively. To me, M.Sc in environmental Science has excellent career prospects, and also for further studies as compared to M.Sc in Zoology. The salaries are also better.

Eligibility criteria for admission:
A minimum of 50% required in graduation.
Mandatory Course: B.Sc (Zoology).
Candidates must have passed graduation from Punjab University or from any other university recognised by the syndicate as equivalent thereto. Other eligibility criteria, 50% weightage will be given to the score in the entrance test and 50% to the score in the qualifying examination.

I would say, there is a better scope of M.Sc in Environmental Science, in private or government sector for the environments Science degree holders. You can apply for a research degree in government organization later or may find many lucrative career opportunities in India as well as abroad. Comparatively, Environmental Science will go better.
