It is a question to be asked before the answer to your question is written. From where you have done your B Tech? If that had been from a place which is becoming your limitation to get a good job then you must join an IIT which is premier institute and is a name for employers. An M.Tech means a real Higher Degree to. Claim good jobs in Research and development as well.

No, you can't not even if you have internationally published and recognized projects. They want GATE. I don't know if it's an IIT thing or an MHRD thing but a person who spends most of his/her day doing really good projects has little time to prepare for exams like GATE and are usually not the type who sit idle and study for an exam for a year after finishing their degree.
So if you're bright, a hard worker, and doing good research/project work, in India you are out of luck.

Hi Rafi,
M.Tech. in Structural Engineering is a 2-year full-time postgraduate course, the minimum eligibility for which is a B.E. Or B.Tech. Degree in any stream of engineering, preferably Civil Engineering, completed with a minimum aggregate score of 55%. Most institutes admit students based on their performance in a relevant entrance test, followed by a round of Personal Interview. Some institutes conduct their own entrance tests for offering admission. Admission process generally varies across colleges. However, GATE/NET scores are accepted at almost all institutes offering the course. Regards.
