IIIT Bhopal began its operation in 2017 and is for now operating temporarily on the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) premises in Bhopal. It made public intentions in November 2023 to develop a 50-acre land located in Ratibad. The building is scheduled to take around three years and finish in 2026.
