As in India, girls won't prefer BE in marine engineering. So, you will find an acute shortage of girl in your college. On an average, if we consider, you will find around 10-15 girls in your college.

Education required: B.E/B.Tech Marine Engineering
In the case of regular B.E./B.Tech. The program, the course duration is of 4 years. On the other hand, students making use of the lateral entry could get admission in 2nd year, directly. So, for them, the course duration is of 3 years.
Eligibility: 10+2 Science stream schooling is required. Also, it should include Physics, Chemistry and Mathe

You have not mentioned anything about yourself. If you have cleared class 12th with enough marks and got good rank in JEE Mains or CET of your state, you will definitely get admission.

Make sure you really want to do it before you embark on marine engineering.
Don't judge based on the information. Information gives awareness, but it can't change or create passion or interest. You will be away from the home for long periods of time. Depending on the vessel you are sailing in, you may or may not visit ports. Container vessels load and unload very fast, there is hardly any time to go sightseeing at any port. Tankers may not even go to the port, they might just anchor at open ocean.
But merchant marine is only one part of the industry. If you are driven, educated from a leading institute and pretty lucky, then

Surely, you are eligible for admission. You have two choices. Either lateral admission in 2nd year of engineering in the connected branch or using diploma as equivalent to 12th, admission in any branch of engineering.
