Having contacts will help you getting better opportunities in the field of event management. As one of the booming industries in India, you will get the chances to work with big corporates too and can have your own adequate contacts in a quick span. Financial background is not an important factor for working in an event managing team. Things you need to do is working hard, being punctual and a team-man.

For preparation of entrance the most important thing is newspaper. Try to follow more than one newspaper to keep updated with the regional and national events respectively. Do follow the books of authors like Keval J. Kumar, Vanita Kohli and Srinivas R. Melkote for better understanding of the subjects.

You really do not need coaching to get into a mass media course in any college. Most of them have a very basic written test (Aptitude, Language and Current Affairs), GD (Group Discussion) (if you pass the first round) and a personal interview. If you read news every day, half of your job is already done. You need to keep reading, watching and be well versed with what is happening in the world. It's really not that difficult.
