Hi,
When you study CS, there are various algorithms for which you have to have a good understanding of concepts like permutations and combinations, matrices, probability etc. that's why they ask for the subject. If they have asked for it then nothing can be done. You should have gone through the prospectus/ brochure of this course beforehand.

Both are good. However, statistics will give you a better opportunity in data sciences /Analytics area. However, if you intend to pursue a career in academics/ research then both subjects seem to be good.
