For an average student, it is impossible to get admission in an IIM or any top B-school. The reason being, the level of CAT and other entrance exams is quite high as well the competition is intense. The criteria and admission processes of these B-schools is such that only the best of the aspirants get selected. Even after getting admission into any top B-school, one has to tackle the challenging MBA study curriculum which again is not easy (if not difficult). I have no intention of scaring you, but this is the reality.

As the difficulty level of CAT varies every year, there is no fixed score which can assure you of getting a call for the IIM's interview rounds. However, going by the past trends, a score of around 95 percentile and above should be enough to get a call.
CAT is of a total 300 marks, with 100 questions to be attempted in three hours.

Hello,
There is no harm in preparing for the CAT exam with that score. With a great percentile, who knows, you might end up with an interview call from a top B-school. You should target FMS New Delhi as it doesn't give any importance to your past academic scores; though its cutoff is high (approx. 99 percentile) and not just CAT, you should prepare for other exams too as backup like XAT, SNAP, NMAT, etc.

Hello Tapubrat,
I personally find MAT to be an easier exam in comparison to other MBA entrance exams.
For the preparations, go through the 9th and 10th maths. Get clear with basics. Level of difficulty of all the sections are easy. If you get to work on your speed and managing time limit. You will get through it with flying colours.

XAT exam is for Xavier's colleges in India, especially for XLRI, Jamshedpur. It is amongst India's top 5 colleges. GMAT is the exam to get admission in top MBA colleges. There are few top colleges in India accepting XAT and GMAT.

Hi Priyam,
You have a good chance of getting admission into BIMTECH, Greater Noida with 80 percentile in XAT. However, the admissions are largely profile based so prepare well for GD-PI.
