Yes, it is very difficult to get into the University of Michigan as its acceptance rate is only around 15.64% for the class of 2028. And it generally stays in the same range.
To get in, Indian students are required to meet the University of Michigan admission requirements, which are given below -

As per the US News and World Report 2026, the University of Michigan is generally considered a top 20 to 50 institution and not top 10. In National terms, it is consistently placed among the top 20 and considered as one of the best public universities.
U of M does not have the traditional 'Ivy League' status but it provides students with a prestigious alumni network and great research output. Look at its rankings given below -

No, GRE and GMAT scores are not generally not required for admission at UM Dearborn. The university uses a test-optional policy for most UG and PG courses.
The admissions committee uses a 'holistic approach' to evaluate students. Students are judged based on their overall academic performance, SOP, and relevant work experience.
The committee does reserve the right to ask for GRE or GMAT scores if they need additional information about a student's readiness for entry at Uni Michigan Dearborn.

Yes, students can change their major at any time at UM Dearborn. Students need to complete and submit the Change of Major/Minor form. The form is to be approved by the relevant departments subject to the eligibility criteria being met for the intended new course.

Students in a good academic standing can opt for a maximum 18 credit hours in a semester at UM Dearborn. Students who wish to pursue more, can also request for a credit overload. For that, they will need to contact their specific college or academic advisor.

Getting a seat at UM Dearborn is moderately competitive for Indian students. The university acceptance rate is 56%.
