The first design school to be designated as a "Institution of National Importance" by an Act passed by the Indian Parliament is the National Institute of Design (NID). NID was founded in 1961 and was formerly known as the National Institute of Industrial Design. Known for providing design courses in specialisations like Industrial, Communication, Textile, and IT Integrated (Experiential) Design, NID is an autonomous institute under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Yes, NID Bangalore MDes offers 19 seats for each specialisation and out of the total seats, 15% seats are reserved for Overseas (supernumerary) category, 10% are reserved for Gen-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, and 7.5% seats are reserved for ST category candidates.

Unfortunately, no. NID Bangalore MDes admission are strictly entrance-based. Candidates need to appear for NID DAT to secure admission at NID Bangalore.
The NID DAT is conducted in two stages and they are:
- DAT Prelims
- DAT Mains
Interested candidates must begin the admission process by applying for NID DAT prelims. The application process is conducted online on the official website of NID. Aspirants can apply for maximum two disciplines.

NID Bangalore and NID Ahmedabad cannot really be compared because NID Bangalore is the extended campus of NID Ahmedabad and the institutes have a common admission process and a centralised placement cell.
NID Ahmedabad offers BDes and MDes, on the other hand NID Bangalore only offers an MDes.
Both the institutes offers different MDes specialisations, therefore the choice of institute will majorly depend on the specialisation selection of a candidate. For instance, if an aspirant wish to pursue MDes with specialisation in Digital Game Design, he/she will have to take admission at the Bangalore campus because the NID Ahmedabad does not off

The NID Entrance Exam is considered among the toughest design entrance exam conducted in the country. In NID DAT, more weightage is given to subjective, drawing related questions.
Experts and test takers state that the overall difficulty level of the NID DAT 2022 exam was moderately difficult.As per NID DAT 2021 exam analysis, the level of difficulty of the question paper for the BDes course was easy to moderate. There was a small change in the NID exam pattern this year with respect to the marking distribution.

For students in the General All India category, the course grade was 86.87. When comparing the NID Assam cutoff for 2023 with 2021, NID Jorhat observed a declining trend for B. Des, with the General All India category students' cutoff percentile falling from 86.87 in 2021 to 60.3 in 2023.
With a cutoff score of 65.8, the Open rank for BDes for the NID cutoff 2024 offered through NID DAT is projected to be approximately 47.
