 The two-and-a-half-year Master of Design (MDes) programme at NID Ahmedabad is offered in five specialisations, i.e., Communication Design, Industrial Design, Interdisciplinary Design, IT Integrated and Textile, Apparel, Lifestyle & Accessory Design.

Industrial Design is offered in six disciplines: Ceramic & Glass Design, Furniture And Interior Design, Product Design, Toy & Game Design, Transportation & Automobile Design and Universal Design.

Communication Design is offered under four discipline: Film & Video Communication, Graphic Design, Animation Film Design, and Photography Design.

Interdisciplinary Design is offered under two discipline: Design for Retail Experience and Strategic Design Management.

IT Integrated Design is offered under four discipline: Digital Game Design, Interaction Design, Information Design, and New Media Design.

Apparel, Lifestyle & Accessory Design offers three discipline: Apparel, Lifestyle, and Textile Design.

To secure admission to Ahmedabad MDes, candidates need to appear for Design Aptitude Test (DAT). NID DAT is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Institute of Design. 

The NID DAT is conducted in two stages, DAT Prelims and DAT Mains, propective candidates need qualify DAT Prelims to appear for DAT Mains. The final admission offers are made on the basis of candidate's performance in both stages.

To enter into NID Ahmedabad candidates must qualify the admission process, which is primarily entrance-based, and the admission process is as under:

STEP 1: Before applying for a course at NID, prospective students should carefully review the course-specific eligibility criteria. Those who meet the eligibility requirements can submit their applications through the NID official website, ensuring that the submission is completed before the specified deadline.

STEP 2: Further, aspirants are required to take the NID Entrance Exam. On the day of the exam, candidates must carry their NID DAT admit card for verification.

STEP 3: After successful conduct NID Entrance exam the institute releases the exam results. The institute may also release a cutoff list, indicating the minimum marks necessary for candidates to qualify for admission.

STEP 4: NID issues provisional offer letters to eligible candidates.

STEP 5: Candidates must participate in the allotment rounds to secure a seat in their desired program.

The admissions process for NID Bhopal in 2024 is entirely online. To complete the application, candidates must go to the official website. The Design Aptitude Test (DAT), which consists of two stages—Prelims and Mains—is used to determine which students are chosen in the end.

Those who wish to get admitted to NID Bhopal for GDPD must pass the online DAT exam. Candidates must fulfil the age requirements established by the institute in order to be considered for basic eligibility.

Candidates in the general category must have been born on July 1, 2000, or later.

Individuals who fall under the reserved category must have been born on or after July 1, 1997.
