NID Entrance Exam

On August 3, 2023, the conducting authority published the NID DAT Cut Off 2023 on its official website. The percentile of most recent applicants accepted into the B.Des/M.Des programmes at various NID campuses is the NID DAT 2023 cut off. The DAT cut off is usually given separately at each level of the NID 2023 selection process. The NID DAT 2023 deadline for the B.Des and M.Des programmes has been made public by the National Institute of Design. The cut-off for each participating institute's programme would be made available category-by-category. The NID cutoff is the minimal score applicants must meet to be taken into consideration for a design course. There are B. Des and M. Des courses available at the NIDs participating institutes.

The first design school to be designated as a "Institution of National Importance" by an Act passed by the Indian Parliament is the National Institute of Design (NID). NID was founded in 1961 and was formerly known as the National Institute of Industrial Design. Known for providing design courses in specialisations like Industrial, Communication, Textile, and IT Integrated (Experiential) Design, NID is an autonomous institute under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. In India, there are seven NIDs in all. Applicants can review the following list of NIDs in India:

The NID Entrance Exam is considered among the toughest design entrance exam conducted in the country. In NID DAT, more weightage is given to subjective, drawing related questions. 

Experts and test takers state that the overall difficulty level of the NID DAT 2022 exam was moderately difficult.As per NID DAT 2021 exam analysis, the level of difficulty of the question paper for the BDes course was easy to moderate. There was a small change in the NID exam pattern this year with respect to the marking distribution.

In the Objective section, a majority of questions are asked on subjects such as Logical Reasoning, English, General Knowledge, and Current Affairs which have a medium difficulty level.

The selection process for M.Des at NID Gandhinagar involves two stages:

Stage 1: NID Entrance Exam (DAT)

The DAT is a comprehensive aptitude test that assesses candidates' design skills, problem-solving abilities, and creative potential. The exam consists of two parts:

• DAT Prelims: A screening test that eliminates candidates who do not demonstrate the basic aptitude for design.
• DAT Mains: A more detailed assessment of design skills, including concept development, sketching, problem-solving, and communication.

Candidates must score well in both the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains to qualify for the next stage of the selection process.

Stage 2: Design Aptitude Test and Interview

Shortlisted candidates from Stage 1 are invited to NID Gandhinagar for a Design Aptitude Test (DAT) and an interview. The DAT assesses candidates' ability to apply design principles to solve real-world problems. The interview evaluates candidates' overall design aptitude, portfolio, communication skills, and motivation for pursuing the M.Des program.

The minimum NID Entrance Exam score required for M.Des admission varies depending on the specific specialisation and the competition each year. However, as a general guideline, candidates should aim for a score of 75% or above in both the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains to increase their chances of selection.
