NID Entrance Exam

The selection process for M.Des at NID Gandhinagar involves two stages:

Stage 1: NID Entrance Exam (DAT)

The DAT is a comprehensive aptitude test that assesses candidates' design skills, problem-solving abilities, and creative potential. The exam consists of two parts:

• DAT Prelims: A screening test that eliminates candidates who do not demonstrate the basic aptitude for design.
• DAT Mains: A more detailed assessment of design skills, including concept development, sketching, problem-solving, and communication.

Candidates must score well in both the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains to qualify for the next stage of the selection process.

Stage 2: Design Aptitude Test and Interview

Shortlisted candidates from Stage 1 are invited to NID Gandhinagar for a Design Aptitude Test (DAT) and an interview. The DAT assesses candidates' ability to apply design principles to solve real-world problems. The interview evaluates candidates' overall design aptitude, portfolio, communication skills, and motivation for pursuing the M.Des program.

The minimum NID Entrance Exam score required for M.Des admission varies depending on the specific specialisation and the competition each year. However, as a general guideline, candidates should aim for a score of 75% or above in both the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains to increase their chances of selection.

It is possible to get into NID Jorhat with a 56 percentile. Because there are many chances as the cut off for each year  varies due to many factors. But, you can get into NID Jorhat with 60% in the NID Entrance exam. While receiving a 60% on the NID Entrance Test (DAT) puts a candidate in a position and admission to NID Jorhat is dependent on a number of dynamic factors.

The likelihood of being accepted into the selected program, each applicant's level of competition during the assessment phase, and their performance in the ensuing studio exam and interview phases all play a role in this.

A fundamental part of the entire selection process is the NID Entrance Test (DAT). However, a candidate's eligibility for acceptance is largely determined by their performance in the studio test and interview phases. The studio test offers a comprehensive picture of the candidate's abilities by critically assessing their creativity, problem-solving abilities, and design proficiency. Concurrently, the interview section explores communication abilities, programme fit, and career goals, providing a thorough assessment.

Although an impressive 60% on the DAT is a good start, higher scores may be required for a strong application due to the competitive nature of some programs, like product design or furniture and interior design.

For students in the General All India category, the course grade was 86.87. When comparing the NID Assam cutoff for 2023 with 2021, NID Jorhat observed a declining trend for B. Des, with the General All India category students' cutoff percentile falling from 86.87 in 2021 to 60.3 in 2023.

With a cutoff score of 65.8, the Open rank for B.Des for the NID cutoff 2024 offered through NID DAT is projected to be approximately 47.

National Institute of Design, Gandhinagar accepts M.Des. DAT entrance test scores for admission to the M.Des course. NID Gandhinagar cutoff 2024 is not available on a public domain, students who appeared for the NID DAT exam can login using their credentials to view the cutoff result. However, the NID Gandhinagar M.Des cutoff for 2021 ranged between 82.76 and 85.51 for the General All India category students. For the year 2019, the M.Des cutoff ranged between 77.5 and 88.89.
