In general, for RWTH Aachen University, an Indian 4 years Bachelors degrees are evaluated as 240 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System). A 3-year UG degree is counted at 180 ECTS

The students are not required to convert these by themselves. This is converted by the university using the official conversion technique and formula.

As an Indian student, if you want to prevent rejection, then you would have to apply for an APS (Academic Evaluation Centre) certificate 3 to 4 months before applying to RWTH Aachen

Look at the step-by-step guidance to align APS and IELTS with RWTH Aachen University admissions -

  • IELTS and other important documents (before 4 to 6 months), at this stage, gather all transcripts, degree certificates and 10th standard marksheets
  • APS application (before 3 to 4 months) - Can apply via the APS portal and requires you to pay an amount of INR 18K.

For English-taught Master's programs, RWTH Aachen requires a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no individual band below 6.0. For highly competitive programs like Computer Science or Data Science, a score of 7.0+ is recommended. TOEFL iBT 90+ is also accepted.

APS certificate is mandatory for all Indian applicants to any German university, including RWTH Aachen. Without it, your application will not be processed. Start the APS process 4 to 6 months before your application deadline. The fee is approximately INR 18,000.

RWTH Aachen requires a minimum German GPA of 2.5 for most programs. For competitive programs such as Computer Science, Data Science and Electrical Engineering, aim for a German grade of 2.0 or better. Use the Modified Bavarian Formula to convert your Indian CGPA to the German scale.
