Try to know the basics and clear the basics from 10th to 12th of all PCB. Once you know the basics you will have a good backbone of the subject then go through some references and guides. There is an exam which is IISC P.Hd entrance test. I would suggest you to attend to get seat in IISC and IIT for Ph.D in Chemistry and their cutoffs.
