Best college for cultural events.
Placements: Around 90% of students got PG seats in government medical college. Our college consists of a placement cell which helps students to get recruited by different companies and even helps students to enhance their skills. Our college is very good for placements and all students got placed with good packages.
Infrastructure: It is Asia's biggest campus. In total, the college has really good infrastructure with a newly built auditorium, library, playground, canteen, gurudwara and classrooms. Canteen is good and food served in this canteen is nice compared to other canteens.
Faculty: Our college has best faculty members and management system. This helps students in their academics and teachers are so friendly to their students that they can approach at any time for help. Teachers of our college are helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable but some are not interested in teaching and some are very strict.

Magnificent campus and prestigious institute.
Placements: Almost every student gets into decent work. After MBBS, some of us will get enrolled in post-graduation courses while others will serve for the bond which we have to do compulsory in MH colleges. The stipend offered is Rs. 30,000. For rural bonds, it is around 85,000. After MBBS, it's a decent earning at the earliest. After that, you can set up your clinic or apply for UPSC CMS or you can enroll in PG courses after clearing the next exam.
Infrastructure: As far as infrastructure is concerned, GMC Nagpur has the 2nd biggest medical campus in Asia. It is spread over 625 acres of land. It provides every amenity a college should have. There are dedicated hostels for every year. Each hostel has 2 messes and a gym. New equipment is being added this year. The hospital building is different. The MBBS building is different. An astonishing oval garden is what we have. There are huge departments with plenty of good and experienced staff. We do not find it difficult to have good equipment.
Faculty: Teachers here are top-notch. They make sure we understand each topic very well. We rely on practicals more, so we will be guided by them. Self-directed learning is given more priority. The passing criteria are 50% of the marks. You have to get 50% in practical and theoretical exams in the university exam.
Other: Every one of us out of 20 lakhs gave NEET UG with a dream to be a good doctor, and a few of us end up here. So we are surrounded by the best brains and also good companies. We have great fests in AIIMS Nagpur. For the Nagpur region, AIIMS conducts a fest named Hallucia. MBBS is a high-value course. It is a good college to aim for it.

What a massive 200 acres of a medical college has to give to its MBBS students.
Placements: As it is a medical college, no medical placements takes place. However, according to data, in 2017, a total of 11 students achieved ranks under AIR 1000 in NEET PG and in 2018, 12 students fetched ranks under AIR 1500 in NEET PG. Many of these were admitted in prestigious PG institutes like AIIMS Jodhpur and GMC Nagpur itself.
Infrastructure: The main college building of GMC Nagpur hosts classes for most of the subjects in the MBBS 4-year course. The building is enormous, with ample space accorded to each department for their classrooms and laboratories. It's so big that some of them still find it as a maze. There are classrooms equipped with AC and projectors. The college has a separate library building just adjacent to the college building. The library can readily accommodate up to 200 students at once or more. There are 3 boys hostels and 2 girls hostels for MBBS students spread across the 200-acre area. Each hostel accommodates almost 200 students and has their own individual mess and canteen space. Medical facilities are unlimited and free for the students of this college. Any therapy or treatment in the hospital of GMC Nagpur will be handled by the institution. The college also embodies within a huge sports complex like a sports ground, basketball court, and tennis court. Badminton court and gym are right now under renovation.
Faculty: Teachers in GMC Nagpur are highly proficient, recognized and skilled doctors in their professions. They all teach quite decently and articulately with vivid explanations. They are also available for guidance and counselling. However, theory lectures are not significant in the MBBS course. Practical classes are the most vital part of the course as they impart laboratory knowledge to students. Clinical postings have been introduced in MBBS, where students from 2nd year onwards go to OPD and award exposure for each clinical subject in the hospital. These provide great clinical exposure and opportunity for students. Exams in college are somewhat stringent and require some sedulous attention from students. Passing percentage for both theory and practical is 50 percent of marks.

Government Medical College, Nagpur FAQs

Q:   How is the college life at Government Medical College, Nagpur?
A:

This college is one of the best colleges in the country for providing Medical Education.

Yes, ragging was an issue in the past, but now there are very few instances of ragging, and that too is not severe (just some intros and other minor things)

I have not heard of any rave parties happening here (I don't know who told you this). And as far as liquor is concerned, yes few students do consume liquor, but the count is very low to have liquor parties going on on the campus.

Hostels are hardly 300–500 meters away from the college building. Anyone needing a hostel room can get it and doesn't need to stay in private hostels.

As far as teaching is concerned, the lecturers are very good. Some of them have so tremendous knowledge and experience, that you would be baffled by how much information they can deduce just from a patient's clinical history.

Students do not always go on studying all year. There are at least 2 major college fests happening in a year. You can join clubs such as Music society, Dance club, Drama club, Quiz club (or even create your little club!)

There are some issues, such as bunks happening in the first year and sometimes (very rarely) non-functional equipment. These are some minor issues, but they don't bother you much.

GMC Nagpur, although it is infamous for ragging, I can assure you that all our seniors are extremely kind-hearted. My seniors were the only reliable friends I had in my first year of MBBS. They not only kept me grounded and motivated, but also took me out for dinners whenever I had a bad day or I was homesick. I would've probably sunk into depression had it not been for them.

There are 2 girls' hostels for MBBS students: Ladies Hostel 1 & Ladies Hostel 2, which are adjacent to the college building. The boys hostel is further down the road (a very beautiful road, I must add) - Boys Hostel 3, 4 & 5. I wouldn't say that they are extremely clean and posh, but they are pretty good considering that they're run by the state government. The food in the mess is okay. If you do not get acclimatised to it in the first few months, there are a variety of Tiffin Services to choose from.

The girls are required to have a room partner throughout the tenure, but the boys do get their private rooms after the 1st year (it depends on which hostel you are allotted and the number of students who opt for the hostel). If there are enough rooms available, the boys end up getting private rooms. To answer your question, usually most 1st year students are allotted the hostel.

About liquor & rave parties: I have been in the ladies' hostel since 2013, and there hasn't ever been any such incident. The reports that you may have come across were not reported in the national newspaper, but in the vernacular newspapers, which have a secret agenda to defame certain people working for the benefit of the student body.

About the education & teaching: If you take an interest in learning, then you will flourish no matter what sort of environment you are put into. GMC Nagpur has some of the best teachers who actually take an interest in teaching, but if you or your batch as a whole does not show interest in learning, they may not even look your way twice.

MBBS is a competitive course, so don't be surprised if you feel too much pressure. You will probably have to face the same environment even if you choose to go to a different college. Dealing with human lives is a mammoth task, and only we can ensure that we live up to our reputation of being the crème de la crème of society.

At the end of the day, no matter which college you choose to go to, it will have its pros & cons. The decision will rest upon you whether to utilise the pros to your benefit or not.

Even as a person who belongs to Mumbai, I have fallen in love with GMC Nagpur. It has humbled me in ways unimaginable. I go to college with students who not only come from families of famous doctors, but also from families of farmers and agriculturists. This is something you don't get to see in every other college.

Believe it or not, I have found friends in such a wide spectrum of society that I am convinced that GMC Nagpur has not only trained me to be a good doctor, but also to be an open-minded human being.

So, all in all, it is a great college for doing your UG, and I am a proud GMCian.

Q:   Is Government Medical College, Nagpur a good university?
A:

You will fall in love with this college.

It’s magnamous first of all. ( campus is HUGE)

Patient flow is tremendous so you learn a lot.

It is good technical wise also MRI, CT, interventiinal radiology also is there.

Even having technology teachers are more prone to teach clinical aspects like diagnosis and all . in mumbai they mainly do it on investigations.

There is good social culture also with own college fest, rock band of each year, music society, dance club, drama club (sa ka ma), quiz club (central india’s first ) etc.

And attendance aspect part is light so you get a lot of time to study.

I loved my 5.5 years of ug.

This college is one of the best colleges in the country for providing Medical Education.

Yes, ragging was an issue in the past, but now there are very little instances of ragging, and that too is not severe (just some intros and other minor things)

Q:   What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at Government Medical College, Nagpur?
A:

Take your regular lectures and any course you subscribed to every day. Refer to the professors' lectures and notes to make sure you understand the material. Practice drawing as many diagrams as you can for the exams. Make use of the online videos to get started on the subject.

Ideally, an MBBS student must spend 6 hours a day for studying in the first year, to ace the tests. There are totally five subjects but the amount of time to be dedicated per subject depends on your proficiency or knowledge in each.

# Medical colleges are more cooperative than competitive

This is not a school or college where there is competition, there are no people to compete with and push out of the way. You have proven to be where you are. Your only competition is you. There is no race, rather one must focus on gaining more information to become a knowledgeable professional. Environment in medical colleges is less competition-friendly and more willing to help each other.

# Prepare for the unseen

This is important, one must learn to stay immune to any sort of humiliation coming from your professors for not having completed tasks or simply being thrown upon by questions to which you do not have answers. Some departments have professors who can simply roast you and test your patience. Brace yourselves and develop a thick skin.

# A roller coaster ride

The whole journey of MBBS is filled and sandwiched between happy and sad moments. Failing in some tests will be a matter of the past in the long run. Acceptance is key. Live every moment. Tackle issues with utmost maturity as there are dull days too. Discuss issues with peers or seek professional help if need be, remember asking for help isn’t a weakness.

To conclude, mental health is important. Stay on top of wellness.

These were some points. Watch this space at NEET BYJU’S for more updates on the same. But to start with, stay put with this bit of advice and be ahead of the curve.

Q:   Which are the top companies that take part of the placement drive at Government Medical College, Nagpur?
A:

As this is an MBBS course, after 4.5 years of education, there is a compulsory 1-year internship programme for which you are paid almost 11 K per month, and after that, you get your degree and join any healthcare facility as a medical officer with a starting package of INR 8 LPA to INR 9 LPA. All students who have passed the final year and completed the internship programme are eligible for this job.

Internship is of 1-year compulsory rotation in all the departments where postgraduate students learn practical aspects of healthcare. After graduation, students can work as a medical officer with a salary of 70 K per month in medical college hospitals or primary health centres in Maharashtra. Your salary may vary from state to state. The duration of the course is 4th years + internships. There is no stipend for an internship.

There is no campus selection actually, you have to give a competitive entrance exam for different posts and for different fields. After this, you will get a job, or you can work in the private sector.
