No, SOP samples are only for reference and are not for the purpose of duplication. In case applicants use the SOP samples as it is, there can be an issue of plagiarism which means that the application will be rejected. Thus, applicants can just refer to SOP samples and look various SOP examples for its format and then draft their own SOP. Avoid copy pasting any SOP template from anywhere as it is, just read them for reference.

If you are eligible for college offered scholarships, you may have to write a separate scholarship essay or SOP with the application. You will be given a question with word limit to write an essay. Addition SOP may be required to show your credibility for the applied scholarship. A generic SOP is different from a scholarship SOP. In a scholarship essay you must highlight your accomplishments, key qualities or skills that makes you different from other candidates. You can read more about writing a scholarship essay here.

You should avoid mentioning any low marks or shortcomings about yourself in any of the application documents, including the Statement of purpose  (SOP). There are very few universities that ask you about your gap year. For them, you can mention the reason for the gap between your studies. Generally, no university asks about low grades during your study period as your selection depends on various criteria like exam scores, student profile, financials, and so on. However, if there is some issue that is clearly visible in your marksheets or your resume, make sure to provide a logical reason behind that event.

Statement of purpose should be 1-2 pages long and everything must be put together in about 800-1000 words; however, the length may vary as per university requirements. It is relatively easy to write a story of your life explaining the importance of each incident that has helped shape your personality. However, it becomes challenging to write an SOP within a specified word limit, and that too when your admission is
