MRes students can bring their dependents to the UK only if the university officially classifies their MRes programme as a "research-based” higher postgraduate degree.

Yes, students enrolling on specific courses can still bring their dependants. These courses include the government-funded courses lasting longer than 6 months and postgraduate research courses, including PhD or other doctoral qualifications on or above RQF level 8.
