Yes there is a priority difference. GATE candidates are exempted from answering TANCET. They are preferred first, seats priority will be given to them first. For all NOT GATE qualified students, entry into ME is based on TANCET exam conducted by Anna University.

All government engineering colleges consider admission only through TANCET counseling for the candidates who also fulfill the eligibility criteria. Candidates must obtain valid scores in TANCET/MAT followed by GD and PI for M. B.A. Admissions at Periyar University Salem.

PSG Institute of Management (PSGIM) does accept TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) scores for admission to its MBA programme. Anna University compiles the TANCET result by evaluating actual score and percentile score. Actual score is calculated using the TANCET marking scheme. While the percentile score is calculated by evaluating the number of test takers using a specified formula. TANCET participating colleges do not release a cutoff score or a cutoff rank. Participating colleges prepare a cutoff score list or last rank list to select candidates for admission. However, this list is not released before the admission process is closed. Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai, releases the TANCET cutoff rank as well as the TANCET cutoff marks for all participating colleges in a consolidated list.
