Candidates having subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12 are eligible for merit-based admission at Thapar University for BE course. Thapar University conducted online counselling 2023 for BE admissions based on merit in three rounds. The first round for BTech admissions was based on JEE Main scores whereas the second was based on merit in Class 12. Mentioned below are the closing ranks for Thapar University cutoff 2023 for BTech specialisations for All India (General Outside Punjab - GENO) and Home State (General Punjab - GENP) category students:

Ranked 31 under the 'University' Category by NIRF in 2022. Punjabi University has failed to feature among 200 top institutions of the country in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings, 2022, much like last year. Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) has suffered a fall of 12 ranks, from 45th overall rank last year to 57th rank this year.
