Candidates having subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12 are eligible for merit-based admission at Thapar University for BE course. Thapar University conducted online counselling 2023 for BE admissions based on merit in three rounds. The first round for BTech admissions was based on JEE Main scores whereas the second was based on merit in Class 12. Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology accepts JEE Main scores for admission to the BE/ BTech courses. Basis the JEE Main score, candidates are then called for TIET counselling process. The counselling process is conduced online for JEE qualified candidates. As per the JEE Main Round 1 Seat Allotment Result 2023, the closing ranks ranged between 21599 and 92183 for the General All India category students.

Like most of the engineering colleges, there are two criteria for getting admission in Thapar Institute, Patiala. One is on the basis of your JEE score and the other one is on the basis of your 12th class percentage (PCM or PCB). The division of seats for the above two is 70% and 30% respectively.
