The University of Sydney is a highly selective university with only around 30% of the acceptance rate. It is one of the most selective and competitive institutions in the Group of Eight (Go8) for Indian students.

The Go8 universities are competitive and the admission difficulty is high which requires students to have around 75% to 95% depending on the program.

Both universities see neck to neck when it comes to the US News and World rankings.

For the year 2025, the University of Sydney took over Melbourne. Being two of the best in Australia, there is no absolute answer to this question. 

Indian students need to choose one using other factors like fees, acceptance rate and curriculum.

The University of Sydney ranks among the Top 40 Universities for MEng - Civil and Structural Engineering. It ranks at #31 in the QS subject rankings. For admission to this course, the students shold have a Bachelor's of Engineering degree in the relevant discipline. English language proficiency score is also required.

Yes, there is one Indian student society at the University of Sydney. This is called as EKANSH Sydney University Indian Society. It hosts Bollywood nights, networking events, cultural camps. A few of its gatherings are-

As per the US News, both universities are giving each other very tough competition. But, in 2025, the University of Sydney took a better spot.
