UCEED

This environment and society section of UCEED 2024 will examine the general awareness of the candidate in environment-related matters, including climate change, population and demography, vegetation, water, pollution, natural resources, etc. The candidate also needs to study the implication of these subjects on design of products, images, infrastructure, and environment. So, the candidate must know how various facets social and cultural connections are intertwined with design, the history of the designed artefact, and socially responsible and environmentally sustainable design responses. The candidate must study, among others, the following topics to prepare for the section:
Environmentally Sustainable Designs, Indian Cultural Background & Famous Structures, Musical instruments, Musical Maestros, Dance forms, Crafts and Dresses. History of Indian Art/Design, An overview of World Art, Art and Architecture, Social and Cultural relation with Art/Design.

This section will include pictorial and diagrammatic questions that will evaluate the candidates understanding of the transformation and manipulation of 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships. The candidate needs to practice the following topics to prepare for the section:
Conventional/Unconventional Materials for Construction, Design, and Decoration
Texture Making Materials, Production Materials, Decoration Materials - Flooring, Cladding (protective material which covers the surface of something), Wall Protection and Decoration - Paints, Plasters, etc. Pattern and Design of Paper Folding Materials and Type of Texture
Optical Illusion (2D/3D objects and understanding). .

The UCEED 2024 question paper will have two parts - 1) the computer-based Part A and 2) drawing and aptitude-based Part B. To prepare for Part A, the candidate needs to focus on the following topics:
Visualization and spatial reasoning: Ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships. Practical and scientific knowledge: Know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects. Observation and design sensitivity: Capacity to detect concealed properties in day-to-day life and think critically about them. Attention to details, classification, analysis, inference and prediction. Environment and society: General awareness of environmental, social and cultural connections with design. Analytical and logical reasoning: Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information. Language: Proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English . Creativity: Grasp of verbal and non-verbal analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols.

The Part A of the UCEED question paper will include questions from Visualization and spatial ability, Observation and design sensitivity, Environmental and social awareness, Analytical and logical reasoning, Language and creativity, and Design thinking and problem solving topics. Note that IIT Bombay will release the detailed syllabus at the time of issue of the admission notification or sometime thereabout. The candidate needs to only follow the updated and detailed syllabus to prepare for the UCEED 2024 exam. Note that each topic will include sub-topics. The candidate must practice these subtopics and sample and previous years question papers to prepare for the exam.
