Glasgow University accepts international students. The university has a diverse community that provides a rich cultural, social, and educational mix of students. International students at Glasgow make up 15% of the university’s student population. Furthermore, Indian students have access to scholarships such as India Merit Award, which acknowledges highly qualified Indian postgraduate students. As per this scholarship, £5,000 tuition fee discount is applicable. Also, the university offers a single room in the university accommodation.

The University of Glasgow has a rich history of Indian students, starting in 1870 with Gopal Chandra Roy, the first Indian graduate. DR. Marbai Ardeasir became the first female graduate in 1897. Over 1000 Indian Students came to the University in the first of the 20th century. Today the Indian community has grown drastically to 10,000 people. Glasgow also has a vibrant Indian community with diverse cultural organisations. The University Welcomes Indian Students and continues to do so.

According to a student from Glasgow, following are some helpful tips for the first year students.

  • GU union is better than QM union. Majority opinion. Membership gives cheap entry to Hive (a nightclub).
  • Make some friends on your course. If you miss a lecture they can fill you in.
  • If you want a good seat in the library at exam time (with an electric socket) get there before 9.
  • There are free teabags etc. available on floor 10 of library, courtesy of a caring librarian.
  • Join as many societies as you like. It's a great way to make friends outside your course.
