The Uni of Gottingen awards partial scholarships as a part of a private-public partnership. All students are applicable for students are Deutschlandstipendium and Niedersachsenstipendien scholarships, except Doctoral students. The monthly stipend for Deutschlandstipendium is EUR 300 (Around INR 33.3k).

There is no tuition fee at the University of Gottingen for Indian students. Exception is there for Continuing Education programs. A few other fee components that students have to pay are-

  • Cost of Living: EUR 800 - EUR 1,000 per month (Around INR 89k - 1 L)
  • Semester fee: EUR 484.18 for Winter semester (Around INR 53k)

Admissions at the Uni of Gottingen is very competitive, as its acceptance rate is between 10% - 20%. So, to take admission to Gottingen Uni, students must have a great academic record. A school leaving certificate is required for admission. A Bachelor's degree is required for admission to Gottingen Uni PG courses.

Gottingen University ranking in the world as per Times Higher Education world rankings for 2026 is #122. On the other hand, the University of Gottingen QS ranking is #122 in 2027. Also, in the Global Universities rankings, this university ranks at #187 in 2025.

University of Gottingen is generally considered the better option for Indian students interested in a more research-oriented Economics degree. Gottingen maintains an excellent reputation for empirical methods, econometrics, and development economics.

However, students interested in a more practical degree should pursue Economics from HWR Berlin. The university carries a better reputation forpolitical economy and European integration.
