The University of Hamburg offers merit scholarships to outstanding international students and PhD students in all subjects and at all degree levels. The award allows socially committed and actively involved international students to fully concentrate on their studies and develop their skills. Under this scholarship recipient is awarded a maximum of EUR 850 per month depending on the availability of funding and it may go up to EUR 1,000 per month.

The University of Hamburg offers 74 bachelor’s programs and 89 master’s programs through its 8 faculty members and 27 departments. The university is known for its excellence in research, with 4 clusters of excellence; Advanced Imaging of Matter, Climatic Change, and Society, Understanding Written Artefacts, and Quantum Universe. Also, the University of Hamburg has 17 collaborative research centres and 8 research training groups.

In the winter semester of 2021/22, a total of 43,587 students were enrolled out of which approximately 5,949 were international students.
