Not at all, the University of Hertfordshire is not ranked anywhere near the University of Manchester

Not only under the Shanghai Rankings, but all the top-ranking bodies of the world rank Manchester University better than Hertfordshire

So, if an Indian applicant has the option to choose from both, they should go for the University of Manchester. 

Due to its prestige, rankings and industry-relevant curriculum. Look at the given table for comparison of ARWU rankings

Among the two Universities, University of Manchester is easier to get into than the University of Warwick because of its low acceptance rate of just 14% for the International students and the acceptance rate of University of Manchester is 39%. In addition to this, University of Manchester is more affordable than University of Warwick because the University of Manchester offers around 43 courses to its students with tuition fee ranging from INR 24.31 L - 63.98 L in comparison to 34 courses with tuition fee ranging within INR 22.34 L - 86.61 Cr provided by University of Warwick

The University of Manchester is ranked very well, among the top 20 to 40 among the top universities of the world. But, it should not only be chosen for its rankings only.

This global institution is a member of the Russell group and is known for many other factors. 

Some of those are given below, take a look -

The University of Manchester is ranked exceptionally well for both, STEM and non-STEM courses. 

However, the STEM courses (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) hold a slight edge along with a global prestige for Indian students.

Look at the Manchester STEM and non STEM rankings by popular bodies - 

  • Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering (#10)
  • Master's in Supply Chain Management (#6)
  • Sociology (#20)

Yes, it is not a problem for Indian students to apply for the MSc Data Science at the University of Manchester with a non CS background

However, if the student does not hold a CS degree, they will be required to apply for specific, specialised pathways and show a strong foundation in Quantitative and Computational subjects. 

Manchester University offers pathways and the applicants should choose the right one. Some pathway examples are given below -

  • MSc in Data Science (Business and Management)
  • MSc Data Science (Computer Science Data Informatics)

With 85 to 90% in CBSE, you are highly competitive for the University of Manchester admissions.

This is a very good score for most Humanities, standard Science and Social Science courses, but moderately competitive for courses with high enrollment such as Computer Science, Medicine or Business.

Do not worry about extracurricular as UK universities generally do not require it.

For Manchester University admissions, Indian students must meet all the admission requirements at the university. Indian students must submit proof of English language requiement at the university.

Yes, for some MA programs, Indian students would be required to have a relevant background to apply. Look at the pointers given below -

  • For most of the University of Manchester courses, a Humanities background is not mandatory. 
  • The students should have a minimum of 55% or higher in UG level from a recognised Indian university.
