Both universities are good in own way you choose to your priority based so I give some points in given below it help to choose right to your priority.

1.if you choose columnbia this programme is reserch oriented and provide to you varieties of laps and projects.

 And if you choose ummass it is mainly focused on research specially with tha state of arts like database and ai

 

If you choose umass Amherst if reaserch important for you so you chosee this university 

And also if you focus on networking and easy to access to industry and you can afford it 

To choose to your priority based.
