No, there is a vast difference in the prelims and Mains syllabus of the UPPSC PCS exam. Firstly, the structure of the prelims and main exam is vastly different. The UPPSC PCS prelims exam is an objective type exam and the main exam is a descriptive exam.
The traditional core subjects such as

  • History
  • Geography
  • Economy
  • Indian Polity
  • Environment Studies
  • Current Affairs

have common topics in prelims and main exam.
But the main exam has two state-specific papers, an ethics paper and, a Hindi paper which makes it a different ball game altogether.

Only Lucent General Knowlegde book is not enough for the UPPSC exam but it is a good book for revision purpose. The candidates can revise from the Lucent books but additional information is required for the UPPSC exam. The factual information provided in the Lucent book can be very useful for the prelims exam.

The candidates should refer to the standard books for each section given in the official syllabus. The Commission is expected to conduct the UPPSC 2024 prelims exam in July 2024. The UPPSC Main 2024 exam dates will be released later. The candidates can refer the best books for UPPSC exam.

No, only NCERT books are not sufficient for the UPPSC exam preparation. The NCERT books can provide an introduction to the topic but they do not dive into details because they are written as per the syllabus of Class IX to XII. However, in the UPPSC exam, the topics need to be covered in their entirety.

The candidates should know all the subtopics of that topic. The candidates should complete the NCERT books within a week of starting them.

The Commission received the post requisition from the concerned departments and included it in the vacancy list for the exam. The Commission receive a number of SDM posts every year and this number varies every year. There are no fixed vacancies for any of the posts.

In recent years, the number of vacancies has been declining.

The candidates should understand that the number of UPPSC vacancies affect the UPPSC cutoff in a negative way. The increase in number of vacancies can reduce the UPPSC cutoff. The number of vacancies are inversely proportional to the cutoff of any exam. The candidates should check the UPPSC vacancies of previous year exams and the corresponding cutoff.
