Depends on your areas of interest and which job you plan to do. There are many programming languages and some may not be of your interest at all. For example if you are a DBMS oriented person Oracle, SQL are the choices.So read IT journals and business news for latest trends and keep yourself updated with new softwares coming up.

You may have to retake IELTS. Is 5.5 the total score? IELTS requirement also differs from campus to campus, program to programs. In Australia you can pursue ELICOS if you don't meet the requirements. You must also mention which level of study you intend to do so I can guide you better.

Its so good to see you planning at the right time. If you are planning for MIT, start creating an excellent profile by participating in science projects, Olympiads and other co curricular activities as they look for an all rounder. To prepare for SAT or ACT you must take coaching as they train you on certain tricks n tips to perform better. In addition to this, community services is also essential. But keep academics on the top.
