The Integrated M.Tech. in Software Engineering at VIT Chennai is a five-year program designed for students to have an extensive knowledge on software engineering and development. Admission into this program is pegged mainly on the candidate's achievement at the Higher Secondary Examination which is a 12th grade supplemented with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as a basic requirement. The crashing aggregate qualification set for a general category applicants is at seventy percent in PCM. For applicants under SC/ST and those from regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and the Eastern part of the country, the marks are lowered by ten percent.

Of great significance is the fact that for the VIT Chennai there is no requirement for writing any entrance examination for this particular program. In effect, the only qualification requirement is a good score in the qualifying examination. Such candidates have to go through a selection process which is competitive and such candidates will be deemed suitable. Participation in the final selection is subject to the number of available slots and the position of the candidate in the ranking list.
