VIT Chennai offers a variety of courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels in the fields of Management, Engineering, Science, etc. For each of the above-mentioned streams, only a limited number of seats for its courses. With the ever-increasing competition and limited number of seats, it is slightly hard to get into the university. However, with the right strategy and practice, students can certainly secure their spots at the university. Interested students can start preparing for the accepted entrance exam and apply early to increase their chances at admission.

VIT Chennai admisisions are completely entrance-based for its popular courses, namely BTech, MBA, MTech, etc. However, admissions are merit-based for courses such as BCom, BBA, BSc, etc. For these courses, candidates can apply directly on the official website of college by sumitting their scorecard of the last qualifying exam.

BTech at VIT Chennai is four years long. The BTech programme follows the semester model, which means that each year of the programme is divided into two semesters in each year. Therefore, candidates have to pass eight semesters of the BTech programme to be eligible for a BTech degree. At the time of admission candidates will have to choose their desired specialisation that they want to take admission in.

VIT Chennai BTech admissions take place through the VIT Chennai Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE). There is no option of direct admission as everyone has to appear for the exam and secure a valid score to be eligible for admission.

In addition to that, only those candidates are eligible to appear for the VITEEE exam who have a minimum aggregate of 60% in their Class 12 exams. Therefore, candidates can apply for admission at VIT Chennai through Class 12 exams but their selection would be based on VITEEE entrance score.

VIT Chennai BTech admissions are finalised when the candidate has completed the document verification and paid some amount of the tuition fees. Candidates have to pay some amount of the tuition fees at the end of the admission process after they are selected for admission. The admission into the programme takes place through the VITEEE exam results. To be eligible for admission into the programme applicants need to have a minimum aggregate of 60% in Class 12.

Aspirants must pass UG or integrated degree with a minimum of 60% aggregate or first class to apply for VIT Chennai MBA programme. Candidates appearing for final year exam in 2026, whose results are published on or before the specified deadline are also eligible to apply. There is a relaxation of 10% in the aggregate for SC/ ST and applicants hailing from Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

Candidates must pass graduation with at least 60% aggregate or first class to apply for VIT Chennai M.Tech programme. Aspirants appearing for their final degree exam/ final semester exam in the current year are also eligible to apply. Aspirants must secure 60% and above or equivalent CGPA in Class 10, Class 12, diploma/ UG/ PG degree to apply for M.Tech programme.

Candidates need to pass VITMEE for admission to VIT Chennai M.Tech programme. VITMEE is a two hour multiple-choice test. The computer based test consists of 100 questions with a maximum of 100 marks. Aspirants who score well in VITMEE need to further participate in online counselling and seat allotment process. Aspirants must also pass Class 10, Class 12/ Diploma and UG degree with a minimum of 60% aggregate for admission. 

VIT Chennai offers a four-year full-time BTech programme divided into eight semesters. The institute offers BTech in various specialisations such as Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, CSE (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning), CSE (Cyber Security), Electrical & Electronics Engineering, etc. Candidates who have completed Class 12 can apply for the BTech course.
