International students seeking admission to the best universities in USA, must provide the following set of documents, to be eligible for a F1 student visa:
- Must be enrolled in a full time programme or a programme with a minimum duration of 18 months
- Attain a I-20 from an SEVP recognised University
- Secure admission to a SEVP-recognized institute
- Must be a resident of a foreign country and show clear intention of returning to the home country, after completion of studies
- Must demonstrate English language proficiency by securing valid scores in IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or Duolingo

The F1 student visa, is the standard visa for international students in USA. For admission to short term, non academic or vocational programs, the M1 visa is more relevant, while the J1 visa is offered to transfer students, taking part in exchange programs.
Therefore, for students enrolled in full time courses, with a duration of 12 months or more, the F1 visa is the most viable option.
