Young Army Officers can join IPS
The PMO or Prime Minister's office has finally found a new way to fill the shortage of IPS officers in our country. Now there will be a limited departmental examination for army officers of Captain and Major ranks. The government has allowed them to compete with the superintendents of the state and paramilitary officers to join the police services.
The UPSC is said to hold this limited departmental exam for the assistant commandant and superintendent of police rank officers from the year 2012. Earlier there was a demand by the army officers that they must be ranked higher over the police inductees. To which the ministry of state Jitendra Singh clarified in the Lok Sabha stating that it is the third mode of recruitment to IPS.
On 1 January 2011 there were only 3,993 officers as against to the total 4,720 officers required. There was a total difference of 1,477 IPS officers. There are around 10,000 vacant posts are lying in the Intelligence Bureau across the country and the recruitment process is relatively slower. A total of 9,433 seats are vacant including Bihar due to the various reasons including staggering of recruitment process and creation of new posts.
