Junagadh Agriculture University, Junagadh started functioning in June, 1960. JAU college was affiliated with Gujarat University, Ahmedabad from its inception till the year 1967. Subsequently, on inception of Saurashtra University in 1968 at Rajkot, the affiliation was transferred to it. JAU Junagadh offers undergraduate, postgraduate and certificate courses in Agriculture and Allied Sciences streams, including Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering and Agri Business Management. The Polytechnic programmes in Horticulture, Agro Processing at Junagadh; Agriculture at Dhari, Halvad and Sidsar; Agril. Engineering at Targhadia are also offered by JAU Gujarat.

JAU offers various scholarships to meritorious students. Some of the scholarships offered by Junagadh Agricultural University are as follows:
- National Talent Scholarship (NTS): Awarded to UG & PG students of other states nominated by ICAR on the basis of merit and written test INR 2000 per student per month for UG and for PG student (INR 3,000 per month).
- Merit Cum Means Scholarship (MCM): Awarded by ICAR to meritorious students of the University. The amount of this scholarship is will amount to INR 500 per month/ student.

5.Postgraduate Scholarship (Master's degree): One thousand rupees each month.On the basis of merit, master's degree candidates are given this scholarship.
6.Dhanuka Financial Assistance:
Established this year, the scholarship programme aims to provide merit-based financial aid to two College of Agriculture students. Each student receives an amount of Rs. 12000/-.
