Minimum age for admission is 17 years on or before 31st December 2025. The maximum age limit for admission is 35 years for Unreserved (UR), OBC, EWS, SC and ST, however the maximum Age for candidates with Physical Disability (PH) will be 40 years.

Presently, KGMU offers admission to MBBS course on 250 seats. Candidates are selected based on a valid rank obtained in NEET UG entrance exam. At KGMU, all the seats are filled with UP state NEET UG counselling process, which is conducted by Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) particularly for the state colleges of KGMU. KGMU Lucknow offers direct admission to only BSc aspirants. For BSc course, the selection is based on the last qualifying exam of Class 12. For other Medical and Dental courses such as MBBS, BDS, MD, DM, etc., candidates are selected based on national-level entrance exams. Admission to these courses is completely based on a valid scores of NEET UG, NEET PG, NEET SS, etc., entrance exams. In order to get admission to DM at KGMU, the minimum eligibility criteria is to get a PG degree of MD/ MS or any equivalent. DM is a super specialisaed course, admission to this course is entirely entrance-based. For admission to this course, candidates have to check the eligibility in the first place and appear for NEET SS entrance exam. This entrance exam is conducted by NBE every year. Those who qualify this entrance exam will be allocated seats as per the NEET SS Counselling. In order to get admission to MBBS at KGMU, there is minimum eligibility criteria for this course. Those who are willing to get admission to MBBS must pass Class 12 with minimum 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology as subjects for General category candidates. However, there is a five percent relaxation for reserved category candidates. Candidates from PWD category are required to get 45% and SC/ ST candidates must get minmum of 40% aggregate.
