Periyar University PhD Eligibility and Highlights 2024
Periyar University PhD admissions 2024 will open soon on the official website. Interested students are advised to visit the official website to know the application status.Periyar University facilitates PhD courses in the field of Arts, Science, and Technology. PhD courses are being offered in four categories: Full-time, Part-time, Independent research without a supervisor, and Research Fellows/Research Assistants/Technical Assistants/Project Assistants/Training Officers in Extension Departments. Admission to the course is on the basis of an entrance test conducted by the university followed by an interview round. Periyar University admission rounds are conducted by the Department Research Committee. The final selection is based on applicants’ performance in the PhD entrance test, interview, and PG course.
Apart from the entrance test, aspirants are required to meet the minimum eligibility as well. The table presents PhD course admission fee, eligibility and selection criteria details:

NOTE: Candidates who qualify for UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR (NET)/SET/GATE/Teacher Fellowship holder/MPhil degree holder who have been admitted through the common entrance test conducted at the University level (evidence of common entrance mark should be produced) are exempted from appearing written test but shall attend the interview.

Periyar University PhD Scholarship
Periyar University offers scholarships to PhD students. A total of seven scholarships are offered to PhD students. The list of scholarships is mentioned in the points below:
- Junior Research Fellowship Programme (DBT)
- Junior Research Fellowship (CSIR/ UGC)- The maximum total duration of the fellowship (JRF plus SRF (NET)) is five years.
- Junior Research Fellowship (ICMR)-The maximum total duration of the fellowship (JRF plus SRF) is five years.
- Inspire Fellowship programme (DST)- The fellowship is tenable for a maximum period of five years
- Women Scientists Scheme - A (DST)-The financial support is available for three years.
- . Women Scientist Scheme - B (DST)-The project is tenable for a maximum period of three years.
- Junior Research Scholarship (LADY TATA MEMORIAL TRUST)-The tenure of the scholarship is five years.

- Any MSc/MTech/MVSc or equivalent degree/Integrated BS-MS/BE/BTech in any discipline of biotechnology; MSc/MTech in bioinformatics or computational biology; students admitted under DBT - supported postgraduate teaching programmes
- MSc in life science/bioscience/zoology/ botany/microbiology/biochemistry/biophysics; and Master’s in allied areas of biology or life sciences; Candidates appearing for final year examinations also eligible to apply

Students who are looking for admission to Ph.D., programme at Periyar University, a candidate should have obtained a Master Degree with not less than 55% of marks or an equivalent grade. For the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer)/Differently abled and those who have qualified for the Master’s degree before 19th September 1991 the minimum eligibility marks shall be 50% in their Master’s degree
An Entrance Test consists of both a written test and an oral interview. The written test will be conducted for 40 marks and an oral interview for 10 marks at Periyar University. Candidates securing 50% aggregate altogether shall be declared eligible for admission. Those candidates who scored at least 15 marks on the written test will be called for an oral interview.
