Expanding its online examination portfolio, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) will have online exams for 15 papers out of 21, next year.

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) 2013 will expand its online examination portfolio to 15 out of a total of 21 papers for which it will hold exams. GATE went online in 2010, when it conducted online exams for just two papers – Textile Engineering and Fiber Science, and Mining Engineering. Next year, it will hold online exams for 15 streams.

Students who have already graduated with a B.E. and a B.Tech degree and are applying for M.Tech or PhD programmes in any of the seven IITs or Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore through GATE are already familiar with its online mode.

GATE 2013 will be organized by IIT Bombay. GATE papers will be conducted at around 100 centres across the country.

Important dates

  • September 1, 2012: GATE online website will open up
  • September 30, 2012: Last date for submission of application
  • October 8, 2012: Last date to collect receipt of online application at the Zonal GATE office
  • December 5, 2012: Online admit card will be available
  • January 20, 2013: Online exams will be conducted
  • February 10, 2013: Offline tests will be held
  • March 15, 2013: Announcement of GATE 2013 results on online applicant interface
