IIT-Roorkee to introduce online spoken Sanskrit camp for teachers
IIT Roorkee claims that the initiative aims to “create awareness about the significance of Sanskrit among the young generation.”
IIT Roorkee Admissions 2021: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee is all set to launch an online spoken Sanskrit camp for teachers. Earlier, the premier technology institute launched an online course on Spoken Sanskrit which witnessed the participation of over 5000 delegates from 32 countries. Now, IIT Roorkee‘s Sanskrit Club is planning to launch a new course for the participants who have aced all five levels and also an online spoken Sanskrit camp for teachers. Sanskrit Club, IIT-Roorkee, and Samskrita Bharati, a non-governmental organization launched an initiative called ‘Subhashitam Samskritam’.
Talking about the initiative, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Roorkee, BVR Mohan Reddy stated, “It is indeed remarkable and laudable that a technology institute has embarked on this initiative to rekindle and encourage the study of Sanskrit. The attempt to transform the Deva Bhasha or language of the Gods into a Vyayaharika Bhasha or a colloquial language deserves kudos.”
The institute claims that the initiative aims to “create awareness about the significance of Sanskrit among the young generation.” Level-1 of the course imparted spoken Sanskrit lessons free of cost. Levels 2-5 covered usage and grammar concepts in Sanskrit. At the end of each level, online exams were conducted.
For the final evaluation, IIT Roorkee will consider prorated marks from these exams and the marks obtained in a final oral exam. It is expected that more than 2000 people will clear the final evaluation. Students must note that all course material will be made available through the Sanskrit club’s website. The IIT informed that 79 lectures and supporting videos related to the course available on YouTube have received aggregate views of over 1 million so far.
