As a part of the admission process, we were given two papers – the aptitude test and sketching test. I have been decent in sketching. In order to prepare for the entrance test I had practiced sketching through various YouTube videos. I also took the help of my friend who had been attending classes to prepare for NATA. She helped me with the basics of perspective drawing and taught me how to sketch an interior space in both one point and two-point perspective.

I was not among the top students in school. But I always made it a point to give my best in whatever I do. Hence, I managed to secure good grades in the Class 10 exams. Being a passionate person has its drawbacks too. You have too much to choose from. Since my interest was in various fields, I felt I had not reached the point where I could decide what I wanted to do after my schooling. Because of this, I chose PCMB in Class 11, so that I get various fields to choose from.

During Class 11 and 12, I had the opportunity to explore various courses of study related to Science through symposiums and workshops. But a big part of me always wanted to do something in the creative field. Whenever I visualised myself years later, I could never see myself doing a desk job in closed doors with a routine. It is true that courses that involve research might have fit my personality, but I wanted to explore the world of designing.

I did some research in the various fields of design and finally narrowed down to interior designing. While I was doing my research for the various colleges that offered the course throughout India, I had come across the degree Bachelors of Design (BDes). This is a four-year course and a new and upcoming professional course in India.

Crescent School of Architecture (B.S.Abdur Rahman University) is one of the best universities known for pursuing a degree in Architecture. Having found out that the college has the course and offered it as an interior architecture course, I was interested and decided to apply.

I felt that the infrastructure, course outline and faculty experience is great in Crescent School of Architecture for the specific course.

I spend my time in college with my friends both during work and break times. One thing I love is that the CSA building is very open and filled with nature and natural light. We are also allowed to work outside our studio rooms in the atrium. We enjoy doing academic work because of this and our creative mind fed with inspiration.

Out of all the subjects, I like to attend the design class the most, which is also our core subject. We have two design projects every semester. I love the whole process of brainstorming, coming up with ideas, and designing our space accordingly. Communicating with classmates, learning about new things through their design and seeing each person’s creativity is truly inspiring.

I am an active participant of extra-curricular activities also. I am a part of the CSA Music Band. I play the role of a singer in the band. My college experience has helped me improve my time management skills which is a crucial aspect of the professional’s life, irrespective of the field. I see as a designer with the knowledge I’ve gained and the skills I acquired through the years, I will be able to succeed in the field wherever I go.

As of the future, my short term goal is gaining more knowledge and experience in the interior designing field. I would like to work under different designers and firms to expand my horizon. My long term goal is wanting to set up my own firm for interior designing and make a mark as a designer in the field.
