The orientation week gave a fundamental outlook of what my two years at BITSoM would look like, says Kabir

Right from hosting us in a luxurious place at the heart of the city, the journey of the first month was a complete surprise. In the pandemic, even though classes were scheduled online, the effort taken by them to ensure students were able to meet each other and interact with all safety precautions, opened us to varied conversations that helped in networking right from day one.

Being a student of the first batch of BITS School of Management (BITSoM), I came to Mumbai with an intriguing mindset since it was unclear what was at stake to be offered, especially in the initial days. The decision to be a part of the founding class was due to two main reasons, the legacy of BITS, Pilani, and the core committee that constituted BITSoM, and they surpassed my expectations and made my decision worthwhile with every step.

Also, through ensuring a diverse founding batch each candidate brings in a different perspective and unique strengths that helped during our discussions over courses like Business Statistics, Marketing Management, etc.

With respect to the framework of the curriculum, I find the timings very flexible without overloading but rather providing sufficient times to reflect upon the class. The quality of professors from the top universities, and the design of the course content with more emphasis on case studies, discussions, and practical problems, help me understand the subjects in a way that wouldn't have been possible through other means. The WAW (Winning at the Workplace) courses are light and find a huge impact on the overall development of me as a business aspirant. Through this, the topics that aren't covered in any other business school, but necessary in the design of an MBA graduate, on the whole, are introduced, and learning seems much more fun.

The orientation week at the start gave a fundamental outlook of what my two years at BITSoM would look like, and it was promising. My interactions with the members of the admission committee, the program head, the placement committee proved worthwhile and they were easily approachable along with giving their inputs and assurance of valuable connections. The grading pattern which is unique for every course is customized in such a way that they test us in the areas of 'maximum & necessary takeaways', which encourages us to understand concepts and proportionally score.

Overall, the first month is something that put a smile on and instilled confidence in my choice with immense learning that set a great foundation.
