Pursuing Excellence: Unveiling the Journey of a Passionate Learner at GIBS Business School

I am currently pursuing my second year of PGDM at GIBS Business School. I've actively participated in numerous intercollege fests and proudly secured four trophies, spanning Best Management Team, Marketing, Design Thinking, and Human Resource Management. With a campus placement offer from Mahindra Finance, I exhibit a passion for business management. Outside academics, I find joy in playing hockey, balancing both my competitive spirit and lifestyle.

Q1. How did you choose your course of study in school (class XI-XII)? What made you choose PGDM at GIBS?

hoosing my course of study in school during class XI-XII was a decision guided by my interests and long-term aspirations. I opted for the CEBA (Computer Science, Economics, Business Studies, and Accountancy) stream as it aligned perfectly with my passion for commerce and my ambition to pursue management studies in the future. The subjects included in CEBA provided me with a comprehensive understanding of business fundamentals, from the technical aspects of computer science to the principles of economics and accounting. Transitioning to my current college and course, which is the PGDM program at GIBS Business School, was a well-considered decision based on several factors. Firstly, I was drawn to the practical approach of the PGDM curriculum, which offered a blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, with a focus on real-world application. This emphasis on practical learning appealed to me as it provided an opportunity to gain invaluable insights and skills directly applicable in the business world.

Moreover, GIBS Business School stood out for its unique offerings, such as the Dual Degree program incorporating Innovation, Research, and Entrepreneurship (IRE) alongside the PGDM coursework. This additional exposure to innovation and entrepreneurship further fueled my interest in the program. The Business Mastery program at GIBS was another compelling aspect that influenced my decision. The opportunity to start a business with seed capital provided by the college was an exciting prospect, offering a practical understanding of entrepreneurial ventures and business management. Furthermore, the Certification in Personal Mastery Program (CPMP) offered by GIBS played a crucial role in preparing me for interviews and enhancing my employability skills, ultimately leading to a successful placement at Mahindra Finance.In conclusion, my choice of college and course was driven by a combination of factors, including the practical learning approach, unique program offerings, and opportunities for real-world exposure and personal development. GIBS Business School emerged as the ideal institution to pursue my PGDM, providing me with the necessary skills and experiences to thrive in the competitive field of business management.

Q2. How you cracked admission at GIBS? What all entrance test(s) did you give? Any coaching classes that you took for preparation? Any other colleges that you were trying out for? What challenges did you face while opting for this college?

Securing admission to my current college, GIBS Business School, was a process fueled by determination, meticulous planning, and self-guided preparation. My journey commenced during the culmination of my undergraduate program when I decided to undertake the CMAT exam. I opted to take this route as it aligned with the admission criteria set by GIBS and other esteemed institutions offering management programs. In preparation for the CMAT exam, I adopted a self-study approach, utilizing study materials, staying updated with current affairs, and rigorously practicing previous years' question papers. This method allowed me to develop a strong foundation of knowledge and hone my test-taking skills, ultimately leading to success in cracking the CMAT exam without the aid of formal coaching classes. While preparing for the entrance exam, I simultaneously explored various colleges to ensure I made an informed decision. GIBS stood out among the contenders due to its reputable programs, conducive learning environment, and promising prospects for personal and professional growth.

However, the journey to securing admission at GIBS was not without its challenges. The rigorous selection process, including the interview round, presented an opportunity for self-reflection and evaluation of my readiness for the program. Articulating my motivations for choosing GIBS and conveying my expectations demanded careful consideration and effective communication. Despite these challenges, my dedication to academic excellence, coupled with thorough preparation and unwavering determination, paved the way for my successful admission to GIBS Business School. Today, as a part of the GIBS community, I am committed to making the most of this opportunity and realizing my aspirations in the field of business management.

Q3. How you spend your time at college? Which classes do you like to attend? Which extra-curricular activities are you a part of in college? If given a chance, what else would you want to do? How has your college experience changed you as a person? What opportunities do you see in future?

My college experience has been a multifaceted journey, characterized by a blend of academic pursuits, extracurricular engagement, and personal growth. At the heart of my college routine lies a commitment to holistic development, manifested through a diverse array of activities and endeavors. In terms of academics, I approach each class with equal enthusiasm, recognizing the value in every subject as a potential pathway to specialization. While I don't have any specific favorite classes, I embrace the opportunity to explore various fields and gain insights into different disciplines. This open-minded approach has allowed me to broaden my horizons and develop a well-rounded understanding of diverse subjects.

In addition to academics, I actively participate in extracurricular activities that complement my academic pursuits. One significant role I hold is as a Student Corporate Relations Executive (SCRE) in the Placements department. In this capacity, I am involved in various aspects of corporate relations, including cold calling, negotiation, and facilitating campus placements. This role has not only provided me with valuable hands-on experience but has also contributed to my personal and professional growth, particularly in terms of confidence, communication skills, and adaptability. Furthermore, I am engaged in various other extracurricular activities, including participating in events and competitions both within and outside the college. These experiences have helped me develop essential skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving.

If given the chance, I would love to explore additional opportunities for leadership and community engagement. Whether through organizing events, leading student initiatives, or volunteering for social causes, I am eager to make a meaningful impact beyond the confines of the classroom. Reflecting on my college experience, I can confidently say that it has transformed me as a person in numerous ways. From being a nervous individual on stage to developing quick thinking, analytical prowess, and unwavering confidence, I have undergone significant personal growth. College has not only equipped me with academic knowledge but has also nurtured essential life skills and qualities that will serve me well in my future endeavors.
