Why you should study Integrated Law courses from Nirma University
Nirma University is well-known for its Law courses taught at the Institute of Law. Shiksha.com, in a conversation with experts at the Institute, takes you through two of the most popular courses in detail – five-year Integrated BA LLB (Hons) and BCom LLB (Hons). Q: What is the eligibility criteria for admission to BA LLB (Hons) and BCom LLB (Hons) programmes at Institute of Law, Nirma University?
A: To be eligible for admission to BA LLB (Hons) or BCom LLB (Hons), taught at Institute of Law, Nirma University, the applicant must have a minimum aggregate of 45 per cent in academics. Candidate, who has appeared in the qualifying examination in May 2020, is also eligible for applying to the Institute. However, they shall be required to produce evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission.
In view of the Bar Council of India, Legal Education Rules-2008, University Grants Commission Act and Regulations, the decision of Supreme Court of India, an applicant who has obtained Class 12 higher secondary pass certificate after prosecuting studies in distance or correspondence method shall also be considered as eligible for admission in the five-year integrated programmes. However, an applicant, who has completed Class 12 through open universities system directly without having any basic qualifications for pursuing such studies, will not be eligible for admission.
Q: What is the admission and selection process for admission to Law programmes at Nirma University?
A: As a part of the admission process, an eligible candidate needs to first fill-up the online application form on the official website by paying a nominal fee of Rs 2,950, if they belong to General category and Rs 4,130 if they are NRI or NRI-Sponsored category.
The last day to apply for the admission 2020 is July 15.
The aspiring candidates also need to undergo the CLAT exam as a mandatory step of the admission process.
For the final selection, we do not follow any cut off system. The final selection is made on the basis of All India Ranks in the CLAT exam.
Q: What is the total cost of Nirma University's five-year integrated law programmes? Do you also offer any kind of financial aid or scholarships to students?
A: The total cost of five-year integrated law programmes is Rs 2.85 lakh. We truly understand the fact that the financial situation of the family should not be a hindrance in students’ education. Hence, we offer scholarships to meritorious students not just to encourage them to maintain the same academic standard but also to extend financial assistance to families. The benefit is extended to student basis the guardian’s gross annual income. The family needs to present ITR for the corresponding year with other necessary documents.
Q: Do you also offer on-campus accommodation options to students?
A: The hostel on the Nirma University campus is primarily for the post-graduate students. However, campus hostel accommodation is provided to the Final Year Law students (Five Year Integrated Programme) as well. The Institute has made a special arrangement to accommodate the other students in selected private managed hostels located in the vicinity or in the city. For such students, University provides bus facilities for hostel transfers.
Q: What is the scope of the integrated LLB programmes? Can you share some placement trends?
A: Students pursuing BA LLB (Hons) or BCom LLB (Hons) programme from the Institute of Law, Nirma University can expect various career opportunities in the field of Litigation, Corporates, Academics and Social Work.
At Nirma University, we have a dedicated placement cell that focuses on strengthening corporate relationships with various stakeholders throughout the year. We are in constant touch with Law firms, PSUs, corporate houses and NGOs.
The placement process at Nirma University includes Pre-Placement Presentation/Talks, Recruitment Registration, Pre-Interview Screening, Short Listing and Final Interview.
Every year we witness the active participation of top leaders of the industry that includes Advani & Co., Fox Mandal & Co, Adani Ltd, O.P. Khaitan & Co., ANM Global, A R Gupta & Associates, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Co. Ltd, HDFC Bank, ICICI Lombard, Tuli & Co. and Dua Associates. We have a student placement ration of 70-80 per cent and in the last placement season, students were offered an average of Rs 6-7 LPA.

The annual tuition fee for BCom LLB at MS Ramaiah College of Law is INR 2.2-2.4 Lacs where as it is INR 3.5 Lacs in Institute of Law, Nirma University. Thus, BCom LLB at MS Ramaiah College of Law is more economical.
